Islamic Azad University of Lahijan branch was established by Dr. Mir Mozaffar Masoumi, mathematics professor of Tehran University, and the determined efforts of Hazrat Ayetollah Ghorbani, the honorable representative of jurisprudent in Guilan Province in the seventh of Azar, 1367. At first, this university admitted 360 students in three majors called Applied Mathematics in Computer, Microbiology, and Fisheries and Environmental Engineering.

     Islamic Azad University of Lahijan has the honor of having more than 8000 students and plays an important role in the higher education of country. In order to achieve the vision of the Islamic Republic and the implementation of Article 44 of the constitution, Islamic Azad University of Lahijan branch as one of the largest universities in Iran has presently educational, research, welfare, and sport buildings with the area of 54000 square meters of land in more than 21 hectares and it has buildings under construction in the area of 10000 square meters.
